The Monte Cristo sandwich is the American version of the Croquet Monsieur sandwich. It is believed the first Monte Crisco sandwich was served in Southern California in 1950.
The Monte Cristo is prepared differently depending on what part of the United States you are in. At the Ft. Worth gourmet sandwich restaurant, it is prepared with turkey, ham, swiss and american cheese on whole wheat bread, deep fried untill golden brown and sprinkled with powedered sugar. Then it is served with jam for you to dip the Monte Cristo Sandwich in.
Great for lunch or dinner, the Fort Worth Monte Cristo Sandwich is served at Chef Point Cafe.
